Different Types of IP Telephony
There are 4 different types of VOIP connections that you can use to make calls, receive calls and do all sorts of other stuff. These are different ways that VOIP providers provide you with and give you several options to choose from.
- Computer-to-Computer Transmit
- In this type of transmit, VOIP providers allow you to do computer-to-computer transmission of voice. Meaning that you will be able to speak from computer-to-computer.
- What this type of transmission requires is headphones (or headsets), microphones and special software that your VOIP should give you to install on the receiving computer (business end) so that you will be able to control where you are getting the call(s) from, ending, recording, and other features.
- PC-to-Phone Transmit
- In this type of transmission, PC users can call people on their telephones, either on landlines or cell phones.
- This requires public switched telephone network (PSTN) to be initiated so that the data from PC can be transferred over to the phone and then from phone to PC by the process of PSTN.
- Phone-to-Phone Transmit
- In this type of transmission, your VOIP provider will allow you to use your telephone line to make calls to other regular telephone lines.
- This all depends on the type of equipment that your provider has given you, like modem, receiver, converter, and what not.
- Also it will depend how fast your Internet connection is from your business/home. The faster your Internet connection is, the faster voice conversion will take place.
- Telephone-to-PC Transmit
- In this type of transmission, you will be allowed to male telephone calls from your regular use telephone to a PC.
- Note that if you make the call to a PC, your PC must have a microphone/headset included with it, as well as special software that SHOULD be provided by your service provider.
- To manage the calls that the PC get’s, these types of systems are used to manager calls;
- i. VOIP Phones
- Phones with adapters for you to be able to receive calls.
- ii. VOIP Gateways
- If a normal phone is used (Non-VOIP), then your system will be able to convert it to your PC so that you will be able to hear what your other side is trying to tell you.
- i. VOIP Phones
Well, these are the types that I wanted to inform you about. I hope you will make the right decision and keep these in mind when you go to purchase VOIP service.
